Easter is such a special time of year for Christians, so don’t you think our home decor should reflect what we are celebrating? Not that long ago, my house was filled with cute bunnies and a “Hoppy Easter” wooden sign.
But then it occurred to me that I want our home environment to point my kids to the spirit of Easter. Point to the very real price our Savior paid on the cross. Point to the truth and hope of Christ’s resurrection. I want to build up to the joy of Easter Sunday by focusing on the parts of the Gospel that are found in Easter. And it seemed like thoughtful decorations would be a great way to do just that.
So, today I’d like to give you a tour of our home decorated for Easter. I’m no interior designer, but I try to give our home a meaningful touch. You’ll see lambs rather than bunnies for decorations. They are a wonderful way to point us towards the lamb who was slain (Revelation 5:12) and make sure we remember how we have all gone astray like sheep (Isaiah 53:6).
You’ll see a holy week garland that leads us through the story of Jesus and his last days on earth. And above the fireplace, you’ll find a memory verse garland to help us learn Isaiah 53:5-12 (if you join my Freebies Library, you can download that garland for free!). You’ll see crosses and tombs and a crown of thorns to remind us of the Easter story.
Yes, you’ll see some spring-colored floral arrangements and some brightly colored eggs mixed in to give it a cohesive look. You’ll see my kids’ Easter baskets that we’ll carry to our church egg hunt and use in our Easter family worship (you can read more about our glow-in-the dark family worship egg hunt here). But you won’t have to look hard to find an inspirational message or verse to remember what our Easter celebrations are all about.
So, if you’re looking for designer-level decorations for your holiday season, you’ll probably be disappointed. But if you’re looking for Christian Easter decorations that a real mom uses to point her real kids towards Christ, you’re in the right spot!
Wishing you a wonderful Easter season where your whole family fully grasps the true meaning of Easter!
